Vira Chernetskyi is a single mother with three children. Via lived in the southern Kherson region where much fighting takes place. She met her former husband Olexandr there in 2008. Five years later, in 2013, they had their daughter Amina. Their two sons followed, Volodymyr in 2015 and Matviy in 2017. Sadly, in 2020, Olexander met another woman and left the family. He has never supported them financially and eventually left Ukraine for Poland.
When the war came to Ukraine, Russians occupied this region and the family spent 1 1/2 years living under their occupation. Thankfully, as soon as an opportunity arose, volunteers helped Vira and the children leave for Germany. They spent six months there but returned to Ukraine. Today they live in the small town of Kotsubynske, north of Kyiv in a wooded area. Their home village is still occupied by Russian forces.
